One of the most pervasive challenges in our Network Marketing profession is the idea that is implanted in the minds of many new distributors from the beginning which tells them that THIS is how you will get rich.
People are sold on joining an opportunity from the stories of rags to riches distributors before them. Desperate for a change in their life, new distributors are told of the power and possibility that this industry provides the average person, all they need to do is sign-up.
Once in, many new distributors then just treat their business with the same lottery ticket mentality they were sold. Only a few months in, they are frustrated, lost, broke, and in no better shape than when they started. The lottery ticket they were sold must be a dud.
It is clear that people are desperate for solutions to their financial troubles, but left without direction in life. It is so obvious that people crave a change and dream of financial independence. Simply look at how lottery ticket sales in the U.S. outpace other entertainment sales including sports tickets, books, video games, movie tickets, and music combined. With no other viable solutions, the vast majority of those who find themselves in need, place their bets on astronomical odds of hitting it big, instead of betting on a sure thing – themselves.
Now make no mistake about it – you can ABSOLUTELY get rich and financially wealthy through your Network Marketing business. It has happened time and time again. But that’s not the point nor the purpose of the Network Marketing industry.
The Network Marketing industry is not designed to make you rich. It’s designed to make you into a better person.

Network Marketing Is Designed To Help You Improve You
In order to have more, you must become more. Period. End of story.
Nobody ever leveled-up in life and stayed the same person. It just doesn’t happen. Every time someone ascends to a new level in their life – be that a job promotion, bigger house, more income, increased business, etc. – they first had to improve themselves.
When I first got started in my Network Marketing opportunity, it was 2012. I had recently been fired from my job for insubordination. Basically I was frustrated because I wasn’t advancing in the company and I had become a brat to my boss. I was at a low-point, for sure.
This was the WRONG time to join a Network Marketing opportunity.
Like many, I was looking for a better path. I was tired of being “jerked around at a job” and wanted the freedom to call the shots in my life.
But the problem was I was an angry, bitter, broke, lost little boy. I didn’t have the personal responsibility, the mental clarity, or the support from my circle of friends that is required to succeed. Like so many others, I was buying a lottery ticket to solve my financial problems. But my finances were the least of my worries.

To Change, First You Must Change
If you’re going to succeed in Network Marketing, in life, in anything, the number one thing you MUST focus on the most is your mindset.
Since birth, society has been implanting false messages that stay with us to our detriment. These negative messages play in our subconscious minds non-stop. The noise that tells you:
All of that nonsense chatter has been put there by other people – by media, advertising, and popular culture. And it is the very thing that is stopping you from moving from one level in your life to another.
In order to succeed at anything in life, you must change the story that you tell yourself – the story that was put in your head. And you must replace it with positive and affirming messages. That’s what it means to change your mindset.
Our profession is probably one of the most supportive environments to help you change your mindset – outside of a Buddhist temple, I assume.
The leaders in your organization know the importance of a positive mindset because it most likely influenced their success. And there are plenty of books, articles, podcasts, seminars, and groups inside of Network Marketing designed specifically to allow you to replace the negative and limiting beliefs in your brain, and replace them with stuff that will actually serve you.
Heck – you’re reading one of those resources now!
When you’re focused on changing your mindset first, what will begin to happen is that your view of everything around you begins to change. You begin to view yourself more positively, sure. But then you begin to see things in other people you may not have noticed before.
Negative attitudes, entitlement, anger, low self-esteem, limiting beliefs, and a propensity to never try new things all start to become visible in the people you hang around. While improving your own mindset, you start to see the negative traits that the people close to you are dealing with themselves. Don’t let them suck you back down!!

Change Your Friends If You Want To Succeed
This one is way harsh but I speak from experience. Sometimes your negative friends have got to go.
Wanna know the secret to succeeding in practically anything??? Here it is. Find people who have what you want, and hang around them more often. Become their bestie.
You are the average of the 5 people you hang around the most. So if your closest 5 friends are losers – guess what?
I think that one of the most under-appreciated, under-touted, and overlooked aspect of the Network Marketing profession is the community. You want better friends who are going to lift you up and support you along your journey of self-improvement? Get started in Network Marketing!
As I write this article, I’m sitting in a hotel room in Las Vegas after meeting up with my Network Marketing sponsor and other members of our team. We came together to work a convention for doctors because we see a need our product can fill for these hard-working practitioners and their practice.
But the experience of surrounding myself with these Network Marketing professionals has been profound! They have excitement, energy, vision, and drive. Whereas people back home feel stuck in their jobs, are depressed, stressed out, and lonely.
Which group would you prefer to spend a weekend with?
People inside of Network Marketing lift each other up because it’s good for business. If you want to succeed in life and have financial security, be around those that are lifting others up. Once you are there then join in and lift someone else up.

Become The Person Who Succeeds
Network Marketing is the vehicle that helps you become a better person. That’s what the industry and your opportunity are really there for.
And when you focus on improving yourself and becoming the best version of you, the money you craved when you first got involved suddenly and magically appears.
You cannot chase after the money – it will always elude you. If you spend all your effort in your Network Marketing business trying to “GET” more reps, “GET” more sales, “GET” more cash, you’ll never have it. It’s just a law of The Universe.
However, if you spend time working on yourself and becoming the type of person who succeeds – with the skills and practice to do the work – then you no longer have a worthless lottery ticket. Instead, you have a thriving life that is capable of growing a thriving and profitable business.
And that’s what Network Marketing is designed to provide.
